Oh, and...

Rachel's enjoying "St Pat-Pat's Day" :)

(For those of you who don't know, our cat's name is Patrick, and we call him Pat-Pat sometimes.)

I keep forgetting to give my posts a title

But hey, lets face it, at least I'm making posts :)

We went to an "Egg Scramble" yesterday at Wolcott Mill Farm Learning Center, which I think is part of the MI state park system. Anyway, I had no real idea of what an egg scramble was, but I had a feeling it had something to do with gathering Easter eggs. Good assumption. However, not knowing what exactly to expect, I had us all in "Easter-casual" dress, if you will... no tshirts, sweatshirts and old jeans, much
to Archie's shagrin.

Upon arrival, however, I found I very well could have had us all dressed like that and no one would have been the wiser. All activities were held with little shelter from the windy, freezing temps. Oh well, we made the best of it since this was to be the only Easter-y activity we were going to be able to do with Rachel because of our travelling over the holiday weekend. Anyway, we arrived to pretty chilly temps, and instead of going into the main barn, we went into the sheep/goat barn. We found that they were doing photos of the kids with a baby goat, which I didn't think Rachel was going to go for at first since she was being a little 'shy' with the animals. Not quite freaked out, but not exactly comfortable. So, she really surprised us with her willingness to sit with a goat on her lap.

Then we went to the chicken coop and then went to get in line for the main barn where the Easter Bunny was doing pictures. Well, it turned out that Rachel was way more freaked out by the person in the big bunny suit than a live baby goat.

Not quite the Santa scene in "A Christmas Story", but not very warm and fuzzy. Now you see why I tend to not depend on these kinds of forced settings to do pictures of my child.

We went back out and took a horse-drawn wagon ride around the farm before the Egg Scramble started. We found that the Scramble was pretty much exactly what it sounds like. They scattered a whole bunch of plastic eggs in a clearing, then blew the whistle, and look out! The kids all ran out gathering as many eggs as they could. Luckly , it was staggered by age, so Rachel was only 'competing' with other 1-2 year olds. After the scramble, Rachel was quite the popsicle, so we decided to call it a day so we could all thaw out. It was a great time all in all.

You can check out our pics from the day here:
I think it's going to be very interesting to see how Rachel's going to do with the new baby around. I mean, I KNOW she'll do great (heh, right?), but what, specifically, is she going to do? I noticed this morning that she is now referring to her little baby doll as a 'him'/'he', and she's been spending a lot more time handling her little baby dolls. Usually, just wrapping them up and making sure they are put down for their naps correctly (the way she likes to be put down, music playing and books under the covers

Everything in babyland is going well. We're at 29 weeks as of today. Yesterday we had our latest checkup and everything's very normal according to the doctor - measurements are good and my glucose test was good. He also gave me the thumbs up for our trip to CA next week, which I am absolutely no further along in packing for than last time I posted. Luckily we have nothing really going on this weekend, so I think we'll try to get well on our way by Monday morning.
It hit me the other day that we're going to be heading to CA in just 2 short weeks (as of yesterday). Which, I found out is NOT enough time to book the pets at the kennel in this area. I guess since we live in an area where most people have enough money to go away on vacation for a week, they all do, and all plan well ahead. Apparently the kennel has been booked up for FOUR months. Ugh. So, on to plan B... and C... and D. We now have one of Archie's coworkers taking the dog while we're gone... HOORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Now we can go on to worry about other things... like packing.

Oh, did I mention that I am coming down with Rachel's cold, now that she's starting to feel better of course. BUT, I will say it is good that we're getting it out of the way now, before we head out to CA. OF course, with our luck, Archie won't get sick til a day before it's time to leave. That's usually how it goes for us anyway.

Cute things Rachel did today -
1. She grabbed my cheeks and pushed her nose against my nose and said "Look Mommy, I have two noses on my face!" Too funny
2. I bought her a pair of rain boots at a Mom to Mom sale yesterday, and she's been wearing them practically nonstop. I think we're going to have a hard time with them. She even wore them with her pajamas!

That's all for now folks.

Sick day

We're taking a sick day today since Rachel seems to have come down with a little something overnight. Of course, taking a sick day for us consists of simply not going to the gym, or any other such 'frivelous' places, and maybe watching a little bit more PBS Kids than normal. And more cuddles of course. I think some of the travelling we have done recently took it's toll on her.

It gives me a good excuse to catch up on getting the house ready for Saturday. Archie has offered to host (coworker) Juan's turkey dinner for him and his wife Monine. They only have a smaller apartment. Supposedly, if everyone who says they're coming actually shows up, then there will be something like 20 people coming, including other kids for Rachel to play with. Should be fun!

Of course, we're having the dinner the same day that there are TONS of local Mom2Mom sales going on. These are like a gigantic flea market for moms to sell their kid-related items. It's usually mostly baby/toddler stuff, but there are things for older kids and maternity things also. Ordinarily I would just catch the next one, but I'm trying to see if I can locate one of those car seat wheeler things for our trip to CA at the end of the month, and we're running out of time. Full price, those things are a little pricey, so I'd like to keep my eye out for a used one.
