My thoughts on the election results

What an amazing time we live in. I can't think of any situations that I would allow a person's race to influence my opinions of them or the job they do, especially given where I grew up and the fine people that I befriended there. So it makes sense that this presidential election has never been about race for me; Barack Obama just happened to be a black man up for the job of President of the USA. It wasn't until after I saw people's reactions after they announced that he had pretty well clinched it last night that it really hit me. Regardless of his policies and his beliefs, he really represents how far we've come culturally. Unfortunately, it also shows how far we still have to go. It frustrates me that some people feel they have to bring his race into a debate when it has no bearing on the issue at hand.

I certainly don’t agree with him on a lot of issues (I don’t even agree with my husband on every issue) and I know that just because he got elected that he's not going to be able to flip a switch and everything will be wonderful in January, I am too realistic for that. However a HUGE light has come on, showing on our country's children what can be done. They (and we) can do it, whatever IT is, and it doesn't matter where they came from, what color there skin is, or how much money their parents have.

I know some of my friends here will say “duh, where have you been”, but I live in a different kind of world than I grew up in now so it’s not in my daily life. I am so pleased for our country and happy my children are growing up in these times.

I could go on, but I've got two kids and have too much to do.
